Commentary | The eastern plateau of Oratea, where the Roman settlement is located, could not use the road made west of the fortress, because there is no connection (see illustration, 'central road'). Therefore, an ancient way should climb the cliff of Oratea and was identified just below the settlement. You can see relatively well 126 m of its length, in the upper part of the slope, the middle part being covered with rolled stones. The entire route can be yet guessed. The lower part is on the same track as the later, medieval road. | |
